Southwest Oklahoma Regional 9-1-1 Association

Serving Beckham, Custer, Harmon, Kiowa, Roger Mills and Washita Counties

Mission Statement

The mission of the South West Oklahoma Regional 9-1-1 Association is to establish all phases of 9-1-1 services to the six counties in which we serve. Our goal is to assist the counties, and their cities and towns, in acquiring the monies, equipment, technology and training needed to implement an Enhanced 9-1-1 telephone system which can accommodate the different phases associated with landline, wireless and IP telecommunications.

What is E 9-1-1?

Enhanced 9-1-1 (or E 9-1-1) calls placed from landline phones allow the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to respond to an emergency call more effectively because the caller’s information is displayed on the PSAP’s answering system. Information such as callers name, phone number and physical address allows the PSAP to dispatch police, fire or ambulance even if the caller cannot communicate with the dispatcher and, should the call get disconnected, the dispatcher is able to redial the number and resume the call.

In the case of wireless calls, the PSAP will receive the callers cell phone number, the cell tower address, latitude and longitude coordinances and the callers location will plot on the PSAP’s map showing emergency personnel where to respond.

How We Work

Each county appointed five members from its community, ranging from commissioners to business owners, to represent their perspective counties on theSouthwest Oklahoma Regional 9-1-1 Association’s Board of Directors. The Board of Directors determines policy for the Association. With each county working together sharing resources and ideas, a more efficient and unified 9-1-1 system can be established.
